  • Producer, Director, and Writer, Whatcom Community College Emergency Preparedness: Be Safe, Be Ready. A 7 minute educational video informing the Whatcom Community College Community about emergency preparedness. 2012-2013.

  • Producer, Director, and Writer, Hope, Resilience, and Recovery: The International Tsunami Museum. A 27 minute video detailing the creation of the International Tsunami Museum, WWU student  involvement in the project, the exhibits in the museum, and programs the museum sponsors to provide education and support to children at local village schools in Thailand, 2007-2008.

  • Producer, Director, and Writer, Learning About Tsunamis with Jai the Elephant. Funding provided by a grant from Psychology Beyond Borders. This educational video is based on the International Tsunami Museum exhibits I created. The video was filmed in Thailand and was created with the assistance of Joseph Swanson, a WWU student who traveled to Thailand and who worked on editing the film. The video is in Thai with English subtitles. We distributed the video to schools along the coast in Thailand and it is used to educate children about tsunami preparedness, 2007-2008.

  • Speaker, Speakerís Bureau, Office of University Communications, Western Washington University. Present invited presentations on disaster preparedness and recovery and psychological effects of disasters and terrorist attacks to community groups (e.g., United States Customs and Border Protection, Bellingham Rotary Clubs, and Explorations Academy), 2002-present.

  • Director, International Tsunami Museum, Khao Lak, Thailand. Designed and constructed an educational museum in Khao Lak, Thailand, to promote tsunami preparedness and recovery following the Indian Ocean Tsunami. Conceptualized the idea for the International Tsunami Museum; designed and constructed educational exhibits with the assistance of WWU Psychology students to educate visitors about tsunami threats and warning systems, and international aid and recovery programs, and constructed the museum. Tens of thousands of visitors from around the world have visited the museum, and the Museum has received international media coverage. Conducted projects assessing the effectiveness of the exhibits in teaching about tsunamis, 2006-2010.

  • Super Comet: After the Impact. Produced in Germany, the production company invited 10 natural disaster experts in different fields from around the world to discuss the consequences of a natural disaster in the movie; I discussed the psychosocial effects of natural disasters. The educational book Armageddon based on the movie was published in German. I contributed to the book chapters discussing the psychological effects of natural disasters Armageddon based on the movie. Movie airs on the Discovery, Science, and History channels in the United States, and television stations in Germany and France, 2006.

  • Consultant for Executive Fire Officer research project with Bellingham Fire Chief, Bellingham Fire Department. Regularly met with Fire Chief Bill Boyd, designed and administered a survey to Whatcom County firefighters, analyzed the data, and assisted in writing the report, 2004.
