American Academy of Underwater Sciences Training Modules
The American Academy of Underwater Sciences (AAUS) Scientific Diver Course is designed to familiarize certified recreational divers with scientific diving techniques, and to qualify participants to dive under the auspices of the Shannon Point Marine Center (SPMC). Upon completion of this course and approval by the diving control board candidates may qualify for verification of training from AAUS as full scientific divers.
The academic portion of this course involves written and online training modules, completion of knowledge reviews, assigned reading, oral presentations, and formal quizzes and exams. Diving skill sessions in both confined pool and open water environments are also conducted. All confined and open water checkout and training dives will originate at the SPMC dive locker. The online portion of a given training module and associated classroom review and exam are required prior to participation in the hands on portions of the training (confined and open water). Module review and written examinations may be scheduled and taken at any time by contacting the diving safety officer.
