COURSE OBJECTIVES
This course introduces students in the planning and environmental policy major, and in the sustainable design minor, to methods and technique in plan production. Students are introduced to plan graphic methods including the application of the Adobe CS3 suite of software (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator), Google SketchUp CAD design software, and videography techniques and editing skills in Adobe Premier.
The objectives for this course are to:
1) Provide introductory skills to design software for urban planning applications
2) Acquire applied skills in computer aided design (CAD) techniques
3) Acquire skills in plan layout and presentation methods
4) Introduce students to the use of videography and video editing
5) Introduce students to collaborative critique process in design
6) Acquire skills in collaborative studio team design approaches
FORMAT: CLASS PROJECTS
The course combines demonstration of software application and assignment of student group team projects illustrating the application of the software. Students will present team design projects in classroom critique.
PROJECT DESIGN PROBLEM
Students will work in small teams to devise site plan design alternatives for infill development using Bellingham's infill toolkit. Students will develop a final illustrated brochure depicting design concepts using graphic illustration techniques.
